Teen car accidents are an issue in Appleton and across the state. One of the most recent teen car accidents happened last weekend when a SUV full of Campbellsport High School soccer players was involved in a serious crash. Authorities say that the SUV ran off of a rural road not too far from the high school.
The 18-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, which started to roll. Nine soccer players were involved in the crash. Three suffered fatal personal injuries. It is unclear whether all of the varsity and junior varsity soccer players involved in this crash were wearing seatbelts.
"There has been a lot of grieving, a lot of crying, a lot of very upset people," the principal of the high school said. "You have kids that are close to their teachers, kids who are close to their coach coming to them for their support."
The school's soccer coach is one of the individuals mourning the loss of a daughter after this accident. Authorities say that the coach's 17-year-old daughter was among the dead in this crash. Candlelight vigils were held to honor the memory of these talented athletes and to allow the community to come together in a showing of support.
It is unknown what caused this accident or whether any drugs or alcohol were involved. There are many causes of teen car accidents including driver distraction, fatigue, and inexperience. We have also covered some teen car accidents involving street sports such as "hill jumping," although it has not been reported that any reckless driving played a role in this particular crash.
